Most of the new people a bit confused to buy a hosting package. Among the matters specified in the package is bandwidth hosting. For this entry, I’d like to share some of the mistakes I’ve made before. It happen coz I just ignore the size of the bandwidth that really need for blog. Before continue my story, let’s share definition of bandwith in web hosting package.

What is bandwith ?
There’s many definition but I like to refer this definition
Bandwith refers to the amount of data that transfers into and out web hosting account. Incoming data can include requests for web pages, email, FTP requests, and FTP uploads, while outgoing data includes file transfers, web pages, and email.
I think this short description will give you enough to understand about hosting bandwith.Back to the topic. Why you need to pay attention about hosting bandwith? It is important because if you get the wrong bandwith amount, you will lose money, traffic,etc. This is my tips :-
1. Compare the bandwith package among hosting providers. Some of them give cheap package but their bandwith is very low.
2. Ask from other’s expertise about usage bandwith monthly. For beginner blogger, low amount bandwith as 10GB is enough but not for those blog/website that can get more than 1,000 visitor per day.
3. Get the hosting provider that can upgrade your bandwith directly. Some of hosting provider can’t upgrade your bandwith automatically. It is hard especially if your blog/website suddenly get huge traffic daily.
4. If you plann to develop many blog/website in same hosting, try an unlimited package for bandwith. There’s many hosting provider give unlimited bandwith in their package. It is good for long term project.

It is because I’m buying the domain using hosting company and they don’t remember when poorblogger.net is expiry. I just aware that my domain is expiry after try to visit this blog and get this :-

Do you know by create a contest can increase traffic to our blog? It is simple and fun way to create huge amount of readers. Most of reader like to get prize and it is a good way to promote your blog. You can determine the prize, duration of the contest, term and method of the entry. This method not just for short term purpose only, some of the contestant maybe will become as a loyal visitor. You also can get incoming links and help your search engine ranking too.
Nowaday, I’m organize a contest in other blog (non-English blog) and using this method :-
1. Announce the contest via social media ( facebook, twitter, ping site).
2. Only blogger can participate in the contest. They need to give backlink to the blog entry. This is SEO method to get incoming links and help the search engine rankings.
3. The duration is about 2 months and the winner will be announce end of October 2010.
4. I’m writing a simple rules that can be understand by others.
When you create contest, you need to make term and condition. It is important to prevent ourselves from being sued. Look carefully your term before publish and announce it.
Create a blog contest, not just about to gain traffic. You must know the investment in the blog. Never give prize that you can’t afford. It is dangerous and will give bad implication if you can’t give the prize as you announce. Calculate your budget before announce. Create a reasonable duration to the contest and start find for funds/ sponsors. For starters, I’ll recommend to use your money. Maybe you can invest around US100 to get feedback from your readers. If the contest success and make huge impact to your blog, maybe others company will sponsors your next contest.
